演講題目/Presentation topic:
Packet-Circuit Convergent Fabrics: the architecture that lets silicon photonics win the AI datacenter

講師介紹/Speaker bio:
Francesco Pessolano is the CEO and founder of Astrape Networks, the Eindhoven-based company behind EFFINITI, the first Packet-Circuit Convergent fabric for AI datacenters. He holds a PhD in computer engineering and an MBA, and spent more than twenty years in deep tech at Philips Research and imec, where his work spanned processor architecture, silicon systems and photonics. He previously co-founded Xetal and Silicam, and is an inventor on patents spanning networking, silicon and sensing systems.
Presentation abstract:
This talk introduces Packet-Circuit Convergent (PCC) fabrics: networks that create a dedicated link, electrical or optical, for each flow, under distributed in-band control, inside the Ethernet a datacenter already runs. We define the class by its properties rather than by any vendor's box, and examine what it changes: the measured economics of a 100,000-GPU reference build, the top-of-rack switch as an open socket for optical circuit modules. One instance of the class, the EFFINITI fabric, runs today in Belgium. We close with what remains unproven, from distributed arbitration at scale to system-level electro-optic co-design, and with a new collaboration addressing the latter.
